Lincoln Park Zoo won’t reopen to the public right away when Chicago enters phase four Friday, but when it does, things will look a bit different. The city’s popular zoo will open its doors on June 29 “with limited capacity and strict safety guidelines in place. The zoo remains free, but reservations will be required. Reservations will be accepted beginning Monday. Lincoln Park Zoo’s closure due to the pandemic marked the first time in years the zoo had closed for an extended period of time.
Brookfield Zoo also announced its phased reopening plan after a months-long closure during the coronavirus pandemic.

Visitor numbers will be limited each day and everyone, including members, will need to book online to guarantee entry. These will be clearly signposted as you go around the zoo. We are respectfully asking visitors who are showing symptoms of Covid not to visit the zoo. To facilitate the re-opening of the Zoo we have implemented enhanced health and safety measures and followed Government advice for the safety of our staff and guests including conducting a full Covid Secure Risk Assessment.
For the health and safety of our guests, staff and animals in our care, the Zoo will be limiting the number of visitors per day to provide for recommended physical distance. Additionally, timed tickets that are staggered every 15 minutes have been enabled to limit the total number of guests entering the Zoo at one time.
Online tickets are required for all guests including Denver Zoo members free and children two and under free. This new one-way path will assist in ensuring appropriate physical distancing while providing guests with an intuitive way to navigate the Zoo.

This is the news all zoos wanted to hear, this is the news zoos needed so we must be grateful to all the people who have written to the Government and all the MPs who have lobbied on our behalf. Without this, zoos themselves could have become an endangered species. We had set ourselves a target to be ready for opening the second or third week of June as we believed re-opening would be allowed on July 4th at the same time as the hospitality industry.
Whilst we are grateful, we need to understand the guidance the Government will set on how we are going to be allowed to open and run the zoo. The problem being these details are to be communicated to us on Saturday 13th June thus giving us only two days to prepare if we were to open on the 15th June. We have carried out a lot of common-sense work to ensure safety and hopefully compliance as well as having the ability to run the park efficiently and deal with any situation that may arise.
However, some of the questions we need answers to are; will visitors be allowed inside buildings? Will social distancing be one meter, one and a half or two meters?

The zoo, located in Hamerton near Sawtry, closed its doors to visitors back in March when the government introduced the first stages of lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic.
